Conectas announces the arrival of Guilherme Casarões as a new board member, a movement that expands the organization’s dialogue with academia and with discussions on democracy, international policy, and rights assurance.
Political scientist and faculty member at the Florida International University in the US, Casarões coordinates the Far Right Observatory, an initiative for the analysis of movements, discourse, and political dynamics that impact democratic institutions. With an activity combining research, teaching, and qualified participation in the public space, he has contributed to reflections on core matters for the defense of human rights in Brazil and abroad.
Over his career, he has been dedicated to the study of international relations, foreign policy, democracy, multilateralism and the far right, becoming consolidated as a reference in the area. This path is now leading him to the Conectas advisory board, an instance responsible for contributing to strategic guidelines, institutional policies, and the organization’s financial management.
“I was very honored and glad to receive the invitation to become part of the Advisory Board at Conectas. For many years I have witnessed the crucial work that the organization carries out in the defense of human rights. I have had the opportunity, several times, to collaborate with this mission, as a member of academia and political analyst. From this point forward, working together with an admirable group of people committed to human rights in Brazil and abroad, I intend to contribute to consolidate a platform for reflection, mobilization, and action in the defense of the human and democratic rights we believe in. I hope my professional experience, as well as the exchanges enabled by this opportunity, may be relevant in this trajectory, which will soon have its 25th anniversary. It is a privilege to be part of this history.”
Casarões’ arrival strengthens Conectas’ actions in a context filled with disputes involving democracy, the civic space, and the protection of fundamental rights. His presence brings the board a strategic perspective on contemporary challenges faced by the human rights agenda, contributing to the development of deeper reflections and actions in the face of decisive topics for the present and future of the country.
