Conectas is now part of the Climate Action Network (CAN), the largest international network of civil society organizations dedicated to climate and defending human rights. The organization´s entry is happening simultaneously on both regional and global fronts, affiliating with CAN Latin America (CAN-LA) and CAN International.
CAN has over 1,900 member organizations in more than 130 countries. It promotes technical cooperation, political advocacy in international climate negotiations – such as UN conferences on climate change – and strengthening skills at the local level.
“Joining the Climate Action Network is an important step in expanding our work on climate justice from a human rights perspective. At a time when climate change is deepening inequalities, it is essential to strengthen global and regional alliances to ensure the voices of the Global South are heard in decisions shaping the future of the planet,” says Camila Asano, Executive Director of Conectas.
Affiliation with CAN is a strategic step for the organization, amplifying its voice across multilateral forums, strengthening partnerships with organizations from different parts of the world and enhancing the impact of its actions on climate justice and defending rights. Conectas was nominated to join the network by Observatório do Clima and Geledés – Black Women´s Institute.
