Registration is now open for the symposium and workshops of the project “Working in a network: training people involved in the reception, integration and interiorisation of refugees and migrants in Brazil”, to take place in Recife (PE) from 9 to 10 April. Registration is free and will be available until midday on 3 April.
The Rede de Capacitação a Refugiados e Migrantes (Network for Training of Refugees and Migrants) will be putting on activities that will take place in the UNICAP Auditorium (Rua do Príncipe, 526, Boa Vista – Recife/PE). The hosts hope to have the participation of members of refugee and migrant committees, reception committees, working groups on employability, managers and teams of shelters, civil servants, civil society organisations involved in this matter as well as students and journalists.
Symposium – The Symposium “Refugees and Migrants in Pernambuco: how to receive and integrate?” will take place on the morning of 10 April and will have two discussion tables. The first one will deal with the issue of National Policy on Migration and Refugees, touching on historical aspects, the right to work and migratory management at the local level. Afterwards, there will be a presentation of local experiences of attention to migrants and refugees, highlighting information about migratory flow in the state and experiences at the Recife (PE) town hall, at the Casa de Direito of the Programa Pana at the Pernambuco Catholic University (UNICAP) and at Aldeias Infantis SOS.

Workshops – There will be ten workshops, from 9 to 11 April. Those who wish to, may sign up for more than one of seven of these, as they will not be held at the same time. However, the workshop “Media Training” is aimed exclusively for spokespersons at institutions and organisations involved in the reception and integration of refugees and migrants. “The Press in the Fight against Xenophobia regarding Refugees and Migrants” is aimed at journalists, press officers and bloggers. The workshop “Productive Inclusion and Entrepreneurism for Migrants” is designed for migrants and refugees.

Working in a network – The Rede de Capacitação a Refugiados e Migrantes is formed of the School of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (ESMPU), The Federal Attorney for Citizen’s Rights (PFDC), The Ministry for Labour (MPT), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (ACNUR), The International Organisation for Migration (IOM), Conectas Human Rights, The Institute for Migration and Human Rights (IMDH), The Federal Public Defender’s Office (DPU), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), The Peace Mission and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Rede will be working in conjunction with the Pernambuco Inter-institutional Committee for the Promotion of the Rights of Migrants, Refugees and the Stateless in organising activities in Recife.
