Conectas and the APIB (Articulation of Brazilian Indigenous Peoples, acronym in Portuguese) made a request this Thursday (26) for the United Nations’ Human Rights Council to demand the definitive rejection of the Time Frame thesis by the Brazilian State.
The request was presented during the 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council, held in Geneva, Switzerland.
In the text, the organizations highlighted that the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF) rejected the Time Frame thesis in 2023, but the issue began to be discussed once again in a conciliation session.
The entities request the rejection of the Time Frame thesis by the Brazilian State, seeking the recognition and restatement of the lack of constitutional grounds of the thesis.
“Our concern is that negotiations regarding our fundamental rights are taking place without indigenous representatives of the APIB in attendance”, the organizations state in their request.
