In a letter published on Sunday, August 2, Conectas and another ten organizations expressed their support for Tlaleng Mofokeng in her mandate as United Nations special rapporteur on physical and mental health. They congratulate Mofokeng for being the first woman to hold the position and, in particular, the first African woman.

The mandate was created in 2002 for the purpose of monitoring the violation of the right to health as it intersects with gender, sexuality, reproductive autonomy and HIV/AIDS, from a global South perspective.
In the document, the organizations invite the new rapporteur to make an official visit to Brazil as soon as possible, emphasizing that no previous mandate holder has ever visited the country.

The organizations point out that violations of the right to health in Brazil are widely known worldwide and it is a problem that has been growing in recent years, particularly with respect to gender, sexuality and sexual autonomy.
