Margarida Genevois is is an inspiration for the Brazilian human rights movement. For more than two decades, the sociologist fought against the violations of the military regime.
Now, at the age of 90, the board member of Conectas comments on the protests that gripped Brazil in 2013 and reflects on her life of activism. “I was very disappointed not to have participated myself. I’ve been on my share of marches in my time… I’ve fled from the police with my daughters. I’ve got some funny stories to tell, of running with the dogs at my heels,” she said. “The protests were extremely positive, because things won’t change unless the people revolt”.
