The Global Go To Think Tank Index, published annually by the International Relations Program of the University of Pennsylvania, in the United States, is one of the leading reports on the activities of research institutes. In 2014, for the third consecutive year, Conectas was cited among the world’s 40 most influential organizations, in the advocacy category.
Think tank and advocacy are words that do not yet have a proper translation in Portuguese. The first refers to knowledge production centers and the second, to efforts to positively influence public agendas.
Although it is not formally a think tank, Conectas is a disseminator of knowledge, through the publication of the SUR journal, events such as the Colloquium, research to guide its actions and other initiatives.
In the 2014 edition of the report, Conectas came 39th in the general advocacy index (in 2013, it was in 40th place) and 2nd among the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) – behind only the South African institute Farpan (Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Policy Analysis Network).
Only one Brazilian organization, the Getúlio Vargas Foundation, featured among the world’s 20 leading think tanks, in 18th place.
