Bruna Benevides, chairwoman of Antra (National Association of Transvestites and Transsexuals) and board member at Conectas, was honored in early December with the 2024 Legislative Medal of Merit, one of the most important honors in the Brazilian Legislative Branch. The award is an acknowledgment of individuals and institutions that stand out for their significant contributions to the country.
As Antra explained on its channels, this is the first time in history that the medal has been awarded to a transvestite, marking a historic moment for the trans community and celebrating Bruna Benevides’ career in the fight for human rights, trans visibility and social inclusion.
The award ceremony took place in the Chamber of Deputies, at the request of Congresswoman Erika Hilton, with Maria do Rosário and Tarcísio Motta in attendance.
