2017 year in review

The turmoil of 2017 could be felt in its very early days, from the outbreak of one of the worst crises of violence in the Brazilian prison system, to shocking police operations against chemical dependents in São Paulo. Brazil has remained in the ranking of the nation that most kills human rights defenders, and our police perpetuated its leadership in lethality. On the other hand, in the year that the country had to report to the UN on domestic violations during the Universal Periodic Review, a new Migration Law was adopted, this time more humane and welcoming.
