Parque eólico instalado no litoral cearense: comunidades locais
This last Tuesday (23), civil society organizations put out an open letter entitled “Fair and Popular Energy Transition: The Brazilian presidency at COP 30 and the need to lead by example”. The document warns of the risk of having the country arrive at the UN COP (Climate Conference), in Belém, without meeting the expectations of leading the energy transition.
Signed by over 50 networks and organizations, including Conectas, the letter points to concrete paths so that Brazil could take a leading role and become a role model country. The text emphasizes the need to establish ambitious goals to reduce emissions and to replace the use of fossil fuels.
The organizations conclude that Brazil may only take a leading role at COP 30 if it conducts a fair and popular energy transition with transparency, social participation, and respect towards human rights and territories.
