Starting at 9 am, the journalists will participate in a Round Table Conversation in the Tucarena auditorium of the TUCA theater, where they will share details on the production of their award-winning work. The discussion will be moderated by Aldo Quiroga, presenter of the Jornal da Cultura news program, and Angelina Nunes, former editor of the O Globo newspaper. The event will be broadcast live by the Maurício Tragtenberg news agency (Agemt) of the Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP).

The award ceremony, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 7 pm at the Theater of the Catholic University (TUCA) in São Paulo. The ceremony will also include tributes to the journalists Mauro Santayana and Mino Carta, as well as Daniel Herz and Eduardo Galeano, in memoriam, who will receive the Special Award 2015.

Considered one of Brazil’s leading journalistic distinctions, the Vladimir Herzog Award recognizes reporting work that addresses democracy, citizenship and human rights in eight categories: Art (illustrations, caricatures and cartoons), Photography, Television Documentary, Television Reporting, Radio, Newspaper, Magazine and Internet.

The winners were chosen in a public session in the Municipal Legislature on September 30. A total of 612 entries were submitted for this year’s award, a record for the decade. The first stage of the selection process, which began on August 15, was conducted by a panel of 24 judges from nearly all the Brazilian states. In the second stage, a commission formed by 11 leaders of the organizing institutions judged the entries that received the three highest scores in each category.

The 37th Vladimir Herzog Journalism Award for Amnesty and Human Rights is staged and organized by: the National Federation of Journalists – FENAJ; the Union of Professional Journalists of the State of São Paulo; the Justice and Peace Commission of the Archdiocese of São Paulo; the Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism – ABRAJI; the United Nations Information Center in Brazil – UNIC Rio; the School of Communication and Art of the University of São Paulo – ECA/USP; the Vladimir Herzog Institute; the Federal Council of the Brazilian Bar Association; the São Paulo Chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association; the São Paulo State Police Ombudsman’s Office; and the Brazilian Association of Interdisciplinary Studies on Communication – Intercom.
