class=\"tts_content_wrapper_1\" ><p>Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales declared Iv\u00e1n Vel\u00e1squez, the head of the UN-sponsored <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cicig.org\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>CICIG<\/u><\/a> (International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala) a \u201cpersona non grata\u201d and ordered him to immediately leave the country.<\/p>\n<p>The decision represents a breach of the Guatemalan government\u2019s commitment to the United Nations against impunity and undermines the ability of the CICIG and the country\u2019s Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office to conduct investigations and file criminal charges.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, more than 80 organizations, among them Conectas, informed that the decision came two days after the CICIG and the Guatemalan Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office requested permission from Congress to investigate Morales for illegal campaign financing.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a
