{"id":6232,"date":"2017-07-31T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-07-31T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/new.conectas.org.inf.br\/wp\/noticias\/training-for-future-journalists\/"},"modified":"2021-04-08T19:26:26","modified_gmt":"2021-04-08T19:26:26","slug":"training-for-future-journalists","status":"publish","type":"noticia","link":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/noticias\/training-for-future-journalists\/","title":"Training for future journalists","content":"<div class=\"tts_content_wrapper_1\" ><p>Registration is now open, until August 18, for the <strong>4th Course on Journalism and Human Rights<\/strong>, which will be take place between September and November in S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/p>\n<p>The course, organized by Conectas in partnership with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.obore.com.br\/\"><u>Obor\u00e9<\/u><\/a>\u00a0agency and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/abraji.org.br\/\"><u>Abraji<\/u><\/a> (Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism), is one of the modules of the Reporter of the Future Project and is intended for students of journalism and other disciplines across Brazil who want to work as journalists.<\/p>\n<p>The 20 selected students will attend lectures and press conferences with experts on Saturdays, after which they will be required to write an article. The course combines the reflective practice of journalistic coverage with the theoretical knowledge of some human rights issues.\u00a0It will be coordinated by the teacher and journalist Andr\u00e9\u00a0Deak.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Click <a href=\"https:\/\/form.jotformz.com\/71975711374665\"><u>here<\/u><\/a> to register.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The selection meeting will be held on Saturday, August 26, starting at 9 am, at a location yet to be determined.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to attending an introductory talk on human rights, the candidates will also take a written test. The list of the 20 selected students will be published on September 4.<\/p>\n<p>In this fourth edition of the course, the students will participate in lectures and thematic press conferences on the situation in the Brazilian prison system, the possibility of reforming the existing police model, the role of Brazil on the international stage, violations caused by companies and the attempt to regulate the global arms trade.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Methodology of Reporter of the Future<\/strong><br \/>\nThe weekly meetings observe the following schedule: a 30-minute editorial meeting between the students and the course coordinator; a one-hour lecture by an expert; a 40-minute press conference; and, finally, 30 minutes to review the day\u2019s events, once again between the students and the coordinator. Afterwards, the students will have an hour to write a news article on the topic of the lecture.<\/p>\n<p>The course will also offer, on a weekly basis, one-on-one sessions with journalists and teachers to provide personalized journalistic and writing guidance for each student.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Money-back deal<\/strong><br \/>\nThe selection meeting is free and the course costs R$937 (one monthly minimum wage). However, the Obor\u00e9 agency is offering a 100% scholarship to all the 20 selected students, on the condition that they: 1) participate in all the meetings; 2) participate in at least one one-on-one session; 3) produce all the weekly news articles immediately after each meeting; 4) have at least one of these articles published in any media outlet with an editor responsible.<\/p>\n<p>When registering, the students agree to write Obor\u00e9 a check, which will be returned at the end of the course provided all these requirements are met.
