What is the architecture of our justice system? How does the country determine what is a crime and what impact does this have on prisons? What is the human rights situation like in the countries of the Global South? What role do public banks play in financing mega-projects that threaten the life of communities and the environment?<\/p>\n<p>University students of journalism and other disciplines who are interested in understanding and covering these and other questions can register, until August 24, for the <strong>3rd Course on Journalism and Human Rights<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The 20 selected students will attend lectures and press conferences with experts throughout the months of September and October 2016 and they will be required to write weekly articles on the issues that are addressed. The course combines the practice of journalistic coverage with theoretical and reflective knowledge on human rights issues.<\/p>\n<p>Organized by Conectas in partnership with the <a href=\"http:\/\/obore.com\/\"><u>Obor\u00e9<\/u><\/a> agency and <a href=\"http:\/\/abraji.org.br\/\"><u>Abraji<\/u><\/a> (Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism), the course is one of the modules of the Reporter of the Future Project, a program that has contributed to the training of journalists for more than 20 years. The course will be coordinated by the journalist and teacher <a href=\"http:\/\/www.andredeak.com.br\/\"><u>Andr\u00e9\u00a0Deak<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Click <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSej6Uh71MX58krFHL3E7lOsGjcexyl2V_gxv6Kksdq2oDjVdw\/viewform?c=0&amp;w=1\"><u>here<\/u><\/a><strong> to register.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After registration, the candidates will participate in a selection meeting, when they will listen to a talk by Jessica Carvalho Morris, executive director of Conectas, and then take a written test. The meeting will take place on August 27, at 9 am, at the S\u00e3o Paulo Union of Journalists. Attendance is mandatory and certificates will be awarded, upon request, even for the candidates who are not selected.<\/p>\n<p>The list of the 20 selected students will be published on September 5.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Methodology<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The weekly meetings, always on Saturdays, will observe the following schedule: a 30-minute editorial meeting between the students and the course coordinator; a one-hour lecture by an expert on the topic of the week followed by an hour-long press conference; and then 30 minutes to review the day\u2019s events, once again between the students and the course coordinator. Finally, the students will write a news article on the topic of the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The course will also offer, on a weekly basis, one-on-one sessions with journalists and teachers to provide personalized journalistic and writing guidance.\u00a0These sessions will allow an assessment of the qualities to be developed and the weaknesses to be addressed by each student.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Click <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSej6Uh71MX58krFHL3E7lOsGjcexyl2V_gxv6Kksdq2oDjVdw\/viewform?c=0&amp;w=1\"><u>here<\/u><\/a><strong> to register.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Program<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All the activities, with the exception of the talk by Jessica Morris, will take place at the offices of Conectas (Av.
