{"id":5608,"date":"2016-07-14T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-07-14T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/new.conectas.org.inf.br\/wp\/noticias\/ayotzinapa-independent-investigation-now\/"},"modified":"2021-04-19T13:53:52","modified_gmt":"2021-04-19T13:53:52","slug":"ayotzinapa-independent-investigation-now","status":"publish","type":"noticia","link":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/noticias\/ayotzinapa-independent-investigation-now\/","title":"Ayotzinapa :: Independent investigation now","content":"<div class=\"tts_content_wrapper_1\" ><p>Given the delays by the Mexican government in concluding the investigation into the <a href=\"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/actions\/foreign-policy\/news\/26440-mexico-justice-for-ayotzinapa\"><u>Ayotzinapa tragedy<\/u><\/a>, which resulted in the disappearance of 43 students nearly two years ago, 12 human rights organizations, among them Conectas, have stepped up pressure on the country\u2019s authorities for an independent investigation into the case and the punishment of those responsible.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wola.org\/sites\/default\/files\/Carta%20al%20presidente%20sobre%20el%20mecanismo%20de%20seguimiento%20para%20el%20caso%20Ayotzinapa.pdf\"><u>letter<\/u><\/a> sent to President Enrique Pe\u00f1a Nieto on Wednesday, July 13, the organizations called for the creation of a mechanism for monitoring the case that follows recommendations established by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oas.org\/pt\/cidh\/\"><u>IACHR<\/u><\/a> (Inter-American Commission on Human Rights of the OAS).\u00a0The request comes more than two months after an Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts, which was commissioned by the Comission to look into the case at the request of the Mexican authorities, completed its mandate. The group of experts\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/actions\/foreign-policy\/news\/45617-ayotzinapa-missing-students\"><u>identified flaws in the investigation process<\/u><\/a> conducted by the Office of the Attorney General and exposed the deliberate attempts by the government to obstruct the investigations.<\/p>\n<p>According to the organizations, the State has still not complied with the main purpose of the initial agreement with the group, to \u201clocate the missing students and guarantee justice for the families of the victims\u201d.
