{"id":4595,"date":"2015-02-23T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-02-23T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/new.conectas.org.inf.br\/wp\/noticias\/letter-to-the-reader\/"},"modified":"2018-01-23T00:17:04","modified_gmt":"2018-01-23T00:17:04","slug":"letter-to-the-reader","status":"publish","type":"noticia","link":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/noticias\/letter-to-the-reader\/","title":"Letter to the reader","content":"<div class=\"tts_content_wrapper_1\" ><p>Dear Reader,<\/p>\n<p>Following its landmark 20th edition published in December 2014 \u2013 which hosted some of the leading names in the human rights world today \u2013 Sur Journal will be adopting a more accessible format and will discuss primarily contemporary human rights issues.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the major innovations that the Journal has undergone are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #890725;\"><strong>Reader generated content focused on human rights practice<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our readers and those involved directly or indirectly with human rights practice may submit contributions for the following sections through our call for papers:<\/p>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #890725;\">Case studies: <\/span>experiences of original human rights strategies;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #890725;\">Mid-length articles:<\/span> academic analyses which feature contemporary, or very recent human rights issues and preferably based on empirical research;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #890725;\">Institutional perspectives:<\/span> reflections from civil society organizations about management, funding, sustainability and related issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #890725;\"><strong>New sections, including artistic work<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to the above sections, the SUR team will use its network to bring you:<\/p>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #890725;\">A leading report at large:<\/span> an in-depth analysis on a challenging recent human rights issue;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #890725;\">Photographic or artistic works:<\/span> contributions by individuals committed to advancing human rights through their artistic talent;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #890725;\">Interviews:<\/span> keeping you up to date with influential figures in the world of human rights;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #890725;\">Short op-eds: <\/span>interesting, thought provoking pieces\u00a0on contemporary issues\u00a0to fuel the global debate on human rights.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #890725;\"><strong>New website <\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In order to make the journal even more relevant and accessible, SUR will continue to be published online, but on a new website that will be launched soon.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #890725;\"><strong>More periodic editions<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In 2015, while our team is busy implementing the new format outlined above, the Sur Journal will continue to be published twice per year (in May and October 2015). From 2016 onwards, it will be published 3 times a year.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #890725;\"><strong>Wider geographical reach<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The online editions will still be available in three languages (English, Portuguese and Spanish). However, these will be collated in one print edition at the end of the year, which will also be published in French. This will allow us to\u00a0considerably\u00a0expand its geographic reach, in particularly in the Francophone region of Africa.\u00a0We hope that very soon the Journal will also be able to receive contributions in French.<\/p>\n<p>So be a part of the SUR and submit your contribution now through our <a href=\"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/actions\/sur-journal\/call-for-papers\">call for papers<\/a>!
