to the future","content":"<div class=\"tts_content_wrapper_1\" ><p>Conectas this week sent the NTC (National Truth Commission) a <a href=\"https:\/\/conectas.org\/arquivos\/editor\/files\/Carta%20CNV_17dez2014_site.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><u>letter<\/u><\/a> signed by all its staff congratulating the federal mechanism for its investigation of the violations that occurred in Brazil between 1946 and 1988 \u2013 a period that covers the military dictatorship (1964-1985).<\/p>\n<p>The organization highlighted the importance of the inclusion in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnv.gov.br\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=571\" target=\"_blank\"><u>final report<\/u><\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/conectas.org\/arquivos\/editor\/files\/RECOMENDA%C3%87%C3%95ES%20DA%20CONECTAS%20PARA%20A%20COMISS%C3%83O%20NACIONAL%20DA%20VERDADE.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><u>seven recommendations<\/u><\/a> it submitted in August: creation of detention hearings, creation of state-level mechanisms to prevent and combat torture, ban on abusive searches in prisons, strengthening of Community Councils, creation of independent forensic agencies, creation of external ombuds offices and internal affairs units for the prison system, and reform of the police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe full report, with all the other proposals and conclusions, demonstrates a profound commitment to the transformation of the present and the future of the country through a careful reading of the pages of our past,\u201d reads the letter.<\/p>\n<p>In the document, Conectas also highlighted that the Commission has contributed to \u201cpaving the way for the legislative, institutional and cultural reforms needed to put an end to the totalitarian legacy that still victimizes Brazilians today\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Click <a
