Over 40 civil society organizations, including Conectas Direitos Humanos, sent a letter to the Brazilian government asking for support regarding the ancillary resolution of the Consultive Opinion from the International Court of Justice on the obligations of States regarding the climate crisis. The proposal will be discussed at the General Assembly of the United Nations on April 22.<\/span><\/p>\n

The initiative is led by Vanuatu, with support from an inter-regional group of countries, and seeks to transform the court\u2019s legal opinion into concrete actions of international cooperation, including a fair transition away from fossil fuels, climate adaptation, and responses to claims for damages.<\/span><\/p>\n

The letter was sent to the minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, and to the minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva. These organizations urge the country to participate in negotiations and support the adoption of an ambitious resolution.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>
