{"id":41217,"date":"2025-11-24T18:08:17","date_gmt":"2025-11-24T18:08:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/?post_type=noticia&#038;p=41217"},"modified":"2025-12-10T19:27:52","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T19:27:52","slug":"caravans-gather-in-brasilia-for-the-2nd-black-womens-march-calling-for-reparations-and-well-being","status":"publish","type":"noticia","link":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/noticias\/caravans-gather-in-brasilia-for-the-2nd-black-womens-march-calling-for-reparations-and-well-being\/","title":"Caravans gather in Bras\u00edlia for the 2nd Black Women\u2019s March, calling for reparations and well-being","content":"<div class=\"tts_content_wrapper_1\" ><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Caravans from all regions of Brazil are arriving in Bras\u00edlia on Tuesday (25) for the <\/span><b>2nd Black Women\u2019s March, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which is expected to fill the Esplanade of the Ministries with around <\/span><b>300,000 participants. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The mobilization, organized by the National March Committee, is calling for reparation policies and the right to well-being, gathering Black women from diverse territories, age groups, and personal histories.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conectas is following the activities in Bras\u00edlia throughout the <\/span><b>Week for Reparation and Well-Being, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">joining the collective effort to <\/span><b>bolster Black women\u2019s movements, amplify their voices, and support urgent agendas on racial justice<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>A decade after the historic march<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ten years after the first march\u2014held in 2015, when over 100,000 Black women marched through the federal capital\u2014the 2025 event is seeking to put themes such as <\/span><b>social mobility, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">structural inequality, safety, income, and violence that disproportionately affects Black women back at the center of public debate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Holding the march in November also aligns it with <\/span><b>Black Awareness Month, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a period marked by demonstrations, debates, and activities nationwide.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is happening on Tuesday (25)?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The program begins at 9 a.m., when participants will gather at the&nbsp;<\/span><b>Museu da Rep\u00fablica<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Cultural groups, capoeira circles, and a procession of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">berimbaus <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will mark the launch of the day\u2019s activities. At the same time, the National Congress will be holding a ceremony to honor the march.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At around <\/span><b>11 a.m., <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the caravans will begin their route along the Esplanade. A chant created especially for the event invites the women to move forward together: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cKeep marching sister, toward infinity. Stand your ground and shout out loud!\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From <\/span><b>4 p.m.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on, Black female artists from different regions will present a large-scale musical performance dedicated to art and resistance. Taking the stage will be&nbsp;<\/span><b>Larissa Luz, Luanna Hansen, Ebony, Pretha\u00eds, C\u00e9lia Sampaio and N\u00fabia<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>International involvement<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year\u2019s march is also strengthening ties with Black women from other countries. Leaders from&nbsp;<\/span><b>Ecuador<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;and from African diaspora communities are also taking part in the mobilization to bolster shared agendas and bring visibility to the struggles of Afro-Latina, Afro-Caribbean, and African women.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ines Morales Lastra, from the Afro-Ecuadorian Northern Emeralds Confederation (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Confedera\u00e7\u00e3o Comarca Afro-equatoriana do Norte de Esmeraldas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), explains that the group\u2019s presence reaffirms the continuity of ancestral voices: \u201cWe march so that our demands will be heard, because we also speak for our grandmothers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>The memory of L\u00e9lia Gonzalez lives on<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The power of the march is also linked to the legacy of&nbsp;<\/span><b>L\u00e9lia Gonzalez<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a central figure in Black feminism in Brazil and the Americas. Her granddaughter,&nbsp;<\/span><b>Melina de Lima<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is taking part in the mobilization after receiving the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Bras\u00edlia on behalf of the anthropologist. Concepts developed by L\u00e9lia, such as&nbsp;<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">amefricanidade<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;and&nbsp;<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pretugu\u00eas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, continue to underpin debates on race, gender, and identity in Brazil.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div
