Dozens of human rights entities, favela movements, and academic groups put out a note of repudiation to the National Executive Board of the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB, <\/span>Partido Socialista Brasileiro<\/span><\/i>) for its decision to demote the attorneys that represent the party in the Action to Claim Non-compliance with a Constitutional Principle (ADPF) 635, known as the <\/span>Favela ADPF<\/span><\/i>. The measure, according to the organizations, represents a \u201csevere attack against the defense of human rights\u201d and an attempt to \u201csilence the denunciation of the massacre that occurred in the Penha and Alem\u00e3o Complexes\u201d, in Rio de Janeiro, the last October 28, which left over 120 dead.<\/span><\/p>\n

The note is signed by: Justi\u00e7a Global, Educa\u00e7\u00e3o e Cidadania de Afrodescendentes Carentes \u2013 Educafro, Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Direitos Humanos em Rede \u2013 Conectas Direitos Humanos, Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Redes de Desenvolvimento da Mar\u00e9 \u2013 Redes da Mar\u00e9, Instituto de Estudos da Religi\u00e3o \u2013 ISER, Movimento M\u00e3es de Manguinhos, Rede de Comunidades e Movimentos contra a Viol\u00eancia, Coletivo Fala Akari, Coletivo Papo Reto, Iniciativa Direito \u00e0 Mem\u00f3ria e Justi\u00e7a Racial \u2014 IDMRJ, Movimento Negro Unificado \u2014 MNU, Grupo de Estudos Novos Ilegalismos (GENI\/UFF), Centro pela Justi\u00e7a e o Direito Internacional \u2014 CEJIL, Laborat\u00f3rio de Direitos Humanos da UFRJ \u2014 LADIH, N\u00facleo de Assessoria Jur\u00eddica Universit\u00e1ria Popular Luiza Mahin \u2014 NAJUP, and Instituto de Defesa da Popula\u00e7\u00e3o Negra \u2014 IDPN, Programa Institucional de Viol\u00eancia e Sa\u00fade \u2014 PIVS\/Fiocruz.<\/span><\/p>\n

The document criticizes the demotion of attorneys Daniel Sarmento, Ademar Borges, Jo\u00e3o Gabriel Pontes, and Eduardo Adami \u2013 responsible for the case since 2019 \u2013 after a divergence with the PSB Executive Board on a request for a federal investigation of the massacre. \u201cThis is an act of disrespect and delegitimization of the historical struggle to hold the State accountable in executions resulting from police raids\u201d, the entities state, adding that the decision represents \u201can ethical and political step backwards\u201d for a party that claims to be committed to social justice and human rights.<\/span><\/p>\n

The text further highlights that ADPF 635 is a milestone in the defense of life and dignity of the Black population of the city outskirts, the result of years of social mobilization. \u201cNo partisan dispute or electoral calculation should overcome the defense of life, truth, and justice\u201d, the note concludes, asking the PSB to review the decision and reestablish its commitment to the cause.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>
