This Wednesday (10<\/span>th<\/span>), Conectas denounced the absence of accountability and reparation policies for victims of violence perpetrated by the Brazilian State. The complaint was presented at the 60<\/span>th<\/span> session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.<\/span><\/p>\n

In its statement, the organization highlights that severe violations perpetrated against Black and Indigenous people are historic and persist to this day. As an example, the speech mentioned the May Crimes, one of the most brutal episodes of state violence since the redemocratization period, in which over 500 people were killed or disappeared at the hands of the Brazilian State.<\/span><\/p>\n

The entity asks that the State should acknowledge the crimes as severe human rights violations, thus declaring that they are not affected by a statute of limitations. \u201cThe justice we call for today is not just justice for the mothers of victims; it is the justice that a democracy owes itself in order to survive\u201d, the organization concludes.<\/span><\/p>\n
