On Friday (20), Conectas reported police lethality in S\u00e3o Paulo. The denunciation was presented at the 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council, held in Geneva, Switzerland.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the statement, the organization highlights that, in 2020, the ‘Olho Vivo’ program reduced police lethality and the deaths of police officers in the state. However, the program was discontinued and replaced by a security policy based on the use of facial recognition technology, which compromises transparency, privacy, and increases racial bias, as cameras are not activated in 70% of incidents.<\/span><\/p>\n

The organization calls on the Brazilian State to ensure the implementation of the body camera program in police forces and for the state of S\u00e3o Paulo to maintain guidelines that ensure control of police lethality and the protection of officers through continuous, automatic recording and independent data storage, along with strict accountability for non-compliance.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThese measures are essential in safeguarding lives and building trust in law enforcement.\u201d The organization said in its closing comments. <\/span><\/p>\n
