{"id":37486,"date":"2023-03-17T13:30:06","date_gmt":"2023-03-17T13:30:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/?post_type=noticia&#038;p=37486"},"modified":"2023-03-29T14:38:18","modified_gmt":"2023-03-29T14:38:18","slug":"ngos-call-for-action-against-slave-labour-and-for-approval-of-the-bill-on-human-rights-and-businesses","status":"publish","type":"noticia","link":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/noticias\/ngos-call-for-action-against-slave-labour-and-for-approval-of-the-bill-on-human-rights-and-businesses\/","title":"NGOs call for action against slave labour and for approval of the bill on human rights and businesses","content":"<div class=\"tts_content_wrapper_1\" ><p>On Friday (17), during the 52nd session of the UN Human Rights Council, Conectas, Adere-MG (Articulation of Rural Workers in the State of Minas Gerais), Business Human Rights Resource Center and Oxfam Brasil asked the international community to reject goods produced in Brazil, through labour that is analogous to slavery and under poor working conditions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the beginning of 2023, hundreds of workers were rescued from conditions analogous to slavery in Rio Grande do Sul. The organisations drew attention to a common factor in all these cases: \u201cthe vast majority of these workers are black and work in global value chains, which in itself demonstrates that this, the last country in the Americas to abolish slavery, is still, in the 21<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">st<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> century, adhering to a rationale of slavery and colonialism.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>Read more:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/noticias\/workers-in-vulnerable-conditions-expose-the-precariousness-of-labor-rights-in-brazil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Workers in vulnerable conditions expose the precariousness of labour rights in Brazil<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the speech, the organisations also highlighted the importance of passing&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.camara.leg.br\/propostas-legislativas\/2317904\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bill of law 572\/22<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which provides for the National Benchmark on Human Rights and Businesses and sets out guidelines for promoting public policies on the subject. The bill of law is awaiting the appointment of a rapporteur on the Economic Development Commission in the Chamber of Deputies.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Watch the video of the speech in
