After a two-year hiatus due to the covid-19 pandemic, Conectas and Sesc 24 de Maio will stage the Ideas Fair again next weekend, in celebration of International Human Rights Day (December 10). Just like in previous years, the sixth edition of the fair will showcase projects geared towards the promotion and realization of human rights on a wide range of fronts, many of which focus their activities in the outskirts of S\u00e3o Paulo and in the downtown area of the city.<\/span><\/p>\n

Exhibition tables, audiovisual productions, artwork and photography, in addition to an open class, are highlights of the free program that brings together initiatives from organizations such as Atados, Politize!, Artigo 19 and Redes da Mar\u00e9, among others.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Ideas Fair celebrates International Human Rights Week by exhibiting the strength and vitality of civil society through projects and initiatives with a social impact,\u201d explained Leonardo Medeiros, coordinator of communication and engagement at Conectas Human Rights. \u201cIn a context where human rights are still so misunderstood, this event reaffirms the importance of defending fundamental rights, democracy and equality,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

The fair features the exhibition of 19 projects selected by the curation team, which is made up of professionals from Conectas and Sesc, prioritizing those with the greatest potential for interaction and engagement with the public at the event. All the projects are geared towards the promotion of human rights in areas such as migration and asylum, women\u2019s rights, combating contemporary slavery, the prison system and combating racism.<\/span><\/p>\n

Participating in the event are students, researchers, artists, journalists, independent communicators, non-governmental organizations, social groups and movements, and non-profit organizations in the following categories: Visual arts; Audiovisual (documentary and fiction up to 25 mins); Photography; Social or community initiatives; and Journalism. <\/span><\/p>\n

One of the highlights of the event will be the open class to be given by Alexya Salvador, a human rights activist and the first trans woman in Latin America to be made a reverend. She will address the topic \u201cFaith and Human Rights\u201d on Saturday, at 3 pm.<\/span><\/p>\n

The event will take place on December 3 and 4, 2022, from 11 am to 6 pm on Saturday and from 11 am to 5 pm on Sunday, at Sesc 24 de Maio (Rua 24 de Maio, 109 \u2013 Rep\u00fablica) in S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/span><\/p>\n

TENDAS DA CIDADANIA: MIGRA\u00c7\u00c3O, DIVERSIDADE E CULTURA DE PAZ (CITIZENSHIP TENTS: MIGRATION, DIVERSITY AND A CULTURE OF PEACE) – Center for the Human Rights and Citizenship of Immigrants (CDHIC)<\/b><\/p>\n

The project runs activities in the S\u00e3o Paulo city districts of Br\u00e1s and Guaianases, with children aged 6 to 12 from migrant communities. It offers recreational and educational activities to promote knowledge about social and human rights, as a way to exercise citizenship and healthily develop emotional qualities; it also promotes cultural appreciation, as a way to combat bullying, prejudice, racism and xenophobia.<\/span><\/p>\n

SERT\u00c3O PERIFA: CULTURA POPULAR PERIF\u00c9RICA NAS MARGENS (SERT\u00c3O IN THE URBAN OUTSKIRTS \u2013 POPULAR NORTHEASTERN CULTURE ON THE FRINGES)<\/b><\/p>\n

The project organizes activities that seek to give value and visibility to northeastern sert\u00e3o culture through forr\u00f3 music, poetry and other expressions of popular culture.<\/span><\/p>\n

LIBERDADES: A EXPERI\u00caNCIA DE ABRIR E CONSTRUIR CAMINHOS ATRAV\u00c9S DA ARTE, CULTURA E ESCUTA COM MULHERES SOBREVIVENTES DO C\u00c1RCERE (FREEDOM: AN EXPERIMENT IN OPENING AND BUILDING PATHS THROUGH ART, CULTURE AND LISTENING WITH SURVIVORS OF WOMEN\u2019S PRISONS) – Casa Flores<\/b><\/p>\n

Casa Flores is an NGO dedicated to the resocialization of women who have spent time in prison and their families. One of the key proposals of its work is to present this topic to other audiences and sectors of society. To combat the prejudice, the organization uses art, culture and listening to share the power of these women.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Casa Comum magazine is a new multi-platform communication project. It is an initiative by Sefras (Franciscan Solidarity Service), with editorial supervision by the Cais Studio \u2013 Public Interest Projects, in conjunction with a number of associations, movements and groups that operate in the country. It is intended to provide a high-quality communication system that can broaden the understanding of different publics on the issues of the human rights and environmental agendas. It also aims to generate knowledge and encourage engagement and social mobilization around topics such as food sovereignty, transforming economies and rights advocacy.<\/span><\/p>\n
