A wide range of civil society organizations will carry out a Civic Vigil on Sunday 2 October 2022 from a base in the S\u00e3o Paulo Bar Association, to coordinate efforts to preserve the integrity of the election process throughout the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

Those participating include: Comiss\u00e3o Arns, Comit\u00ea de Defesa da Democracia, Pacto pela Democracia, Coaliz\u00e3o em Defesa do Sistema Eleitoral, Conectas Human Rights, Democracia em Xeque, Direitos J\u00e1!, Instituto Ethos, Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Tide Setubal, Transpar\u00eancia Internacional, Rede de A\u00e7\u00e3o Pol\u00edtica pela Sustentabilidade (RAPS), F\u00f3rum Brasileiro de Seguran\u00e7a P\u00fablica and members of the committees of Lecturers for Democracy from the University of S\u00e3o Paulo and S\u00e3o Paulo Getulio Vargas Foundation Law Schools, as well as other organizations dedicated to building democracy in the country. The Vigil will seek to include initiatives to guarantee total and safe access to voting posts during the 1st round of the elections, normality in voting procedures, the count and totalling of votes, full acknowledgement of the election results and respect for popular sovereignty.<\/span><\/p>\n

To this end, during the week it will be holding conversations with the public municipal, state and federal organs responsible for ensuring transport and security on the Sunday of the elections and will also be in contact with the Electoral Justice department in order to monitor procedures to guarantee the integrity of the electoral system.<\/span><\/p>\n

It will also be maintaining contact with national and international electoral observation missions on Sunday and with actions to monitor the count and totalling of the votes by the Federal Audit Court, the University of S\u00e3o Paulo, the Bar Association and other organizations that are members of the Electoral Transparency Commission, kept in place by the TSE with a view to the elections this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, it will also join forces to ensure the full and immediate acknowledgement of the election results for all the posts being disputed on Sunday, by members of the public, in the political arena and by the international community, honouring the tradition of a plural peaceful democracy and the excellence of the Brazilian system of elections that we have managed to construct over the last four decades.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the wake of the unequivocal commitment that has been expressed throughout the year and particularly on 11 August, by a number of sectors of our society, the Vigil will seek to gather the forces that have been mobilised on this journey so that this October we are able to witness a moment not just of preservation but of a real affirmation and deepening of our democratic experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>
