The statement was made during a meeting of the 50th session of the organ at the United Nations, in Geneva (Switzerland).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Read more:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/noticias\/how-to-enforce-the-rights-of-refugees-in-brazil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">How to enforce the rights of refugees in Brazil<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/noticias\/migration-law-5-years-of-a-new-migratory-paradigm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Migration Law: 5 years of a new migratory paradigm<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the organisation, \u201calthough formally the borders are open after the elimination of Covid restrictions, Brazil still imposes illegal sanctions on disabling the asylum applications&nbsp; and immediate deportation for migrants and asylum seekers\u201d.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conectas also drew the attention of the Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants, to the increase in racism and xenophobia in the country and recalled the&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/noticias\/interview-the-connection-between-xenophobia-and-racism-and-the-death-of-moise-kabagambe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">case of Mo\u00efse Kabagambe<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a Congolese refugee who was brutally murdered in Rio de Janeiro. Finally, they called on the Brazilian government to promote and protect the rights of migrants and refugees, to remove all impediments for those seeking asylum in the country and to refrain from
