On Thursday (2<\/span>nd <\/span>of May), the Commission on Human Rights and Minorities of the Chamber of Deputies promotes the seminar \u201cPanorama of the 5 years of the Migration Law\u201d. <\/span>Follow the event live on this link<\/a> slated at 10 am (Brasilia time).<\/span><\/p>\n

Representatives from various institutions such as; the United Nations (UN) in Brazil, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the National Human Rights Council, as well as associations defending the rights of migrants would be participating in this event. In addition, Camila Asano; the program director at Conectas, is also among the invited guests.<\/span><\/p>\n

5 years of the Migration Law<\/b><\/h2>\n

In 2017, the National Congress approved the <\/span>New Migration Law (13,445\/2017)<\/span><\/a>, a text that had wide social participation and also placed the migrant as a subject of rights. The law was drafted under principles of non-discrimination and non-criminalization, thus respecting the 1988 Constitution.<\/span><\/p>\n

In partnership with other organizations, Conectas was directly involved in the formulation of the law, by providing technical and legal support to parliamentarians, following debates and public hearings and mobilizing public opinion based on the most current discussions on migration in multilateral forums.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>
