The 10-page document, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/noticias.uol.com.br\/colunas\/jamil-chade\/2022\/04\/15\/onu-mineracao-na-amazonia-sera-catastrofica-para-bilhoes-de-pessoas.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published on the UOL portal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, draws attention to bill of law 191, that legalizes mining on indigenous lands.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cExploitation of the Amazon and the lands of the indigenous peoples represents a catastrophic risk to the indigenous peoples who live there, but also to biodiversity and to billions of other people as the Amazon rainforest is fundamental for support and balance and a stable climate\u201d, it warns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The representatives also highlighted the importance of consulting and listening to indigenous peoples during the debate. \u201cThe bill of law also allows the president to present a request for authorisation to carry out activities even if the indigenous peoples have not consented to a project. However, the bill of law is in violation of the state obligation to consult the indigenous peoples concerned, through institutions representing them, to gain their approval\u201d, it says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to concern over the violation of the rights of the indigenous people, the group also drew attention to a number of points regarding the consequences of the bill\u00b4s approval, such as the worldwide impact on the environment, health, access to drinking water and sewage systems and to the right to adequate target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brazilian organisations sent a report on deforestation in Brazil to the UN<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, warning the organ of the Legislative\u00b4s attempts to dismantle environmental protection, such as bill of law 191. \u201cSome of civil society\u00b4s recommendations in the document include: not promoting legislative changes that facilitate or encourage deforestation, principally in Amaz\u00f4nia and the Cerrado regions\u201d and \u201cnot reducing the boundaries of previously demarcated indigenous
