The impact on the Sim\u00f5es (Piau\u00ed) communities caused by the Wind Parks in the Ventos de Araripe III Complex is the theme of the panel being organised by the Conectas Programme for the Defence of Socio-environmental Rights at the <\/span>People\u2019s Forum on BRICS<\/span><\/a>. The session \u201cDevelopment banks and traditional communities: is it possible to guarantee sustainable ventures and protect human rights?\u201d is to take place on Wednesday 20th at 10.15am (time in Bras\u00edlia). Representatives from the communities affected, from the NDB and from the International Accountability Project will be participating. The mediator will be Julia Neiva, coordinator of the Conectas Programme for the Defence of Socio-environmental Rights.<\/span><\/p>\n

The discussion will seek to create a channel for dialogue among those involved in the project. It is also intended that the demands of the communities be taken onboard and that sustainable ventures funded by the NDB respect social participation and human rights.<\/span><\/p>\n

The wind venture in question, which was built by Casa dos Ventos Energias Renov\u00e1veis S.A, was inaugurated in 2017 and was funded by the BNDES (National Development Bank) and the NDB (New Development Bank), the BRICS bank.<\/span><\/p>\n

A <\/span> <\/span>series of reports by Conectas<\/span><\/a>, in partnership with the International Accountability Project, show how wind ventures change the landscape and the lives of the surrounding communities and the role of the development banks in this scenario. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>
