{"id":33625,"date":"2021-09-27T11:42:30","date_gmt":"2021-09-27T11:42:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/?post_type=noticia&#038;p=33625"},"modified":"2021-10-04T13:36:20","modified_gmt":"2021-10-04T13:36:20","slug":"at-the-un-organisations-denounce-bill-of-law-that-will-create-a-political-police","status":"publish","type":"noticia","link":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/noticias\/at-the-un-organisations-denounce-bill-of-law-that-will-create-a-political-police\/","title":"At the UN, organisations denounce bill of law that will create a \u201cpolitical police\u201d","content":"<div class=\"tts_content_wrapper_1\" ><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the morning of Monday 27, during the 48th Session of the UN Human Rights Council, in Geneva, civil society organisations denounced the&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/noticias\/lower-house-committee-approves-counterterrorism-bill-see-the-main-problems-with-the-proposal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>anti-terrorist bill of law (PL 1595\/2019)<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;that is currently in progress in the Chamber of Deputies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The institutions, Conectas Human Rights, Article 19, Terra de Direitos and Criminal Justice Network warned of the creation of \u201ca parallel system of surveillance and repression controlled by the president of the Republic which could lead to the systematic violation of people\u00b4s privacy and put those who oppose the government at risk\u201d, given that the project is to set up a kind of political police.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/conectas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Oral-statement-GD-Item-4-PL-1595-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Read the full speech here<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Due to fast tracking and limited social participation because of restrictions of access to the Parliament during the pandemic, bill of law 1595 was passed on 16 September in a Special Committee of the Chamber of Deputies and is waiting to be placed on the agenda of the House plenary session, to be passed to the Senate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe call the attention of this Council to human rights conditions in Brazil, in particular the protection of the space of civil society and threats to human rights defenders in the country\u201d, the organisations stressed. The condemnation is an attempt to warn parliamentarians in the National Congress to vote against the threat to the free activities of civil society, activists and human rights
