{"id":31853,"date":"2021-05-18T13:09:04","date_gmt":"2021-05-18T13:09:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/?post_type=noticia&#038;p=31853"},"modified":"2021-05-25T17:08:21","modified_gmt":"2021-05-25T17:08:21","slug":"conectas-condemns-attempt-to-censor-professor-and-columnist-conrado-hubner","status":"publish","type":"noticia","link":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/noticias\/conectas-condemns-attempt-to-censor-professor-and-columnist-conrado-hubner\/","title":"Conectas condemns attempt to censor Professor and Columnist Conrado H\u00fcbner","content":"<div class=\"tts_content_wrapper_1\" ><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conectas condemns the Attorney-General of the Republic, August Aras\u00b4 attempt to intimidate Professor Conrado H\u00fcbner Mendes.\u00a0 He sent a communication to the Dean of USP (University of S\u00e3o Paulo) requesting that the case be sent to the University Ethics Committee.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In an article in the Folha de S\u00e3o Paulo newspaper and on social media, H\u00fcbner, a Professor at the Law Faculty of the University, criticised the Attorney-General of the Republic \u00b4s lack of action, regarding the ineffective response of the government to the pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are already persistent persecutions by the Bolsonaro government against activists, journalists, performers and academics who are being sued or investigated for criticism of the president, but this is even more serious given that it came from the current head of the Public Prosecutor\u00b4s Office, the body responsible for protecting fulfilment of the Constitution. As such, Aras is adding his voice to the environment of authoritarianism and intimidation in place in the country, against the fundamental freedom of expression.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using the state apparatus to investigate and sue civil society actors with the intent of censuring critical voices is an attack on the constitutional values that guarantee
