{"id":30770,"date":"2016-03-22T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-03-22T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/?post_type=noticia&#038;p=30770"},"modified":"2021-04-20T18:57:39","modified_gmt":"2021-04-20T18:57:39","slug":"migration-and-human-rights-2","status":"publish","type":"noticia","link":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/noticias\/migration-and-human-rights-2\/","title":"Migration and human rights","content":"<div class=\"tts_content_wrapper_1\" ><p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: right; width: 400px; height: 267px;\" title=\"Man\u00fa Gomez\/FotoMovimiento\" src=\"\/arquivos\/editor\/images\/mg_idomenirefugees_02.jpg\" alt=\"\" longdesc=\"Refugees stuck at Macedonian border await EU decision to cross the Balkans\" \/>Human rights organizations from South America have requested the support of United Nations Member States a<\/p>\n<div>nd the Special Rapporteur on Migrants for the immigration reform conducted by Argentina and the close monitoring of the reforms underway in Brazil and Chile.<\/p>\n<p>In an <a href=\"\/arquivos\/editor\/files\/MIGRANTES%20Pronunciamiento%20HRC_22_Marzo%202016%20_FINAL%20(3).doc\"><u>oral statement<\/u><\/a> made this Tuesday, March 22, at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, the organizations stressed that the reforms being implemented in South America \u201ccan respond to the phenomenon of migration in a more supportive, fair and sustainable way\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Argentina\u2019s recent immigration law requires the State to document all immigrants, including for purposes of employment, and assure them social rights, due legal process and access to justice. Immigration law reform is also being debated in Brazil and Chile, with strong mobilization from society against criminalization and discrimination, and in favor of respecting due legal process, cutting bureaucracy and providing more access to visas and residency permits.<\/p>\n<div>\nThe organizations also criticized European countries for limiting access to rights, the growing militarization of the borders, and the interception of immigrants and their detention and deportation \u2013 measure?s that have also been adopted by Mexico and the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Council must promote an immigration policy paradigm that is underpinned by the respect and protection of human rights of all migrants. In Argentina, Brazil and Chile, we believe that this is an achievable goal,\u201d said the organizations.<\/p>\n<p>The oral statement was made by CELS, with the support of Conectas Direitos Humanos, C\u00e1ritas Arquidiocesana S\u00e3o Paulo, SEFRAS, ITTC, Miss\u00e3o Paz, Corporaci\u00f3n Humanas, Centro de Derechos Humanos de la Universidad Diego Portales and SJM Chile.<\/p>\n<p>Watch the
