{"id":30518,"date":"2021-03-15T20:05:45","date_gmt":"2021-03-15T20:05:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/?post_type=noticia&#038;p=30518"},"modified":"2021-04-14T12:46:12","modified_gmt":"2021-04-14T12:46:12","slug":"mothers-of-may-takes-legal-action-against-use-of-video-containing-libel-against-activists","status":"publish","type":"noticia","link":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/noticias\/mothers-of-may-takes-legal-action-against-use-of-video-containing-libel-against-activists\/","title":"Mothers of May takes legal action against use of video containing libel against activists","content":"<div class=\"tts_content_wrapper_1\" ><p>The Mothers of May Movement has sent an official letter to the S\u00e3o Paulo State Attorney General asking for the prosecutor Ana Maria Frig\u00e9rio Molinari to be held liable for allegations against the activists that form the organization.<\/p>\n<p>The document, signed with Conectas, asks the Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office to take steps to remove from circulation a video recorded in 2015 in which the prosecutor makes baseless accusations against the mothers of victims of State crimes.<\/p>\n<p>The material, used during the <a href=\"https:\/\/noticias.uol.com.br\/cotidiano\/ultimas-noticias\/2021\/02\/26\/juri-chacina-osasco-resultado.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>trial of law enforcement officers <\/strong><\/span><\/a>involved in the \u2018Osasco Massacre\u201d, had been denounced by the journalistic outlet <em>Ponte Jornalismo <\/em>in 2016, when it was <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/ponte.org\/censura-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>ordered by the courts to remove the video.<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/conectas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/2021_03_01-OFI%CC%81CIO-Ma%CC%83es.pdf\"><strong>Read the document in full here<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the letter, the organizations ask for the prosecutor to be held liable for unfounded claims, for Molinari to make a retraction to the Mothers of May Movement and for a block on the video in which she makes the allegations, as well as its use in legal cases.<\/p>\n<h3>Accusations without evidence<\/h3>\n<p>In the video, the prosecutor suggests that the Mothers of May is involved in the management of drug trafficking turfs and argues that the activists denounce police officers \u201cwho actually fight drug trafficking\u201d, implying that the Movement has criminal connections.<\/p>\n<p>At the time the allegations were made, Molinari was working for Gaeco (Special Operations Group for Combating Organized Crime).
