Based on the question \u201cwhat does it mean to you to be a human rights defender in Brazil today?\u201d, Conectas will stage an online debate this Tuesday, November 10, at 6:30 pm, as part of the launch of the <\/span>30th issue of Sur Journal<\/b>.<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

To answer the question, Conectas has invited activists from different fields to deepen the dialogue on the realities and challenges of fighting for human rights in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking at the event will be Angela Amanakwa Kaxuyana, an indigenous leader in the state of Par\u00e1; M\u00f4nica Nador, a visual artist and the founder of the Jardim Miriam Art Club in southern S\u00e3o Paulo; and Thuane Nascimento and Jefferson Barbosa, of the PerifaConnection group in Rio de Janeiro. The discussion will be moderated by the editorial staff of Sur.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

About Sur 30<\/b><\/p>\n

Issue number 30 of Sur Journal was published on August 24 and features contributions from authors from 15 countries, including Brazil, Colombia, Syria and South Africa.<\/span><\/p>\n

The articles address a range of topics, from the struggles of indigenous peoples in defense of their land, structural racism and the high number of killings among black youth from the urban outskirts, to issues such as LGBTQI+ rights, violence against women and female prominence in activism against repression.<\/span><\/p>\n

The publication is available for free online in Portuguese, English and Spanish.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>
