{"id":21997,"date":"2020-07-16T20:12:48","date_gmt":"2020-07-16T20:12:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/?post_type=noticia&#038;p=21997"},"modified":"2021-04-01T15:09:28","modified_gmt":"2021-04-01T15:09:28","slug":"webinar-indigenous-peoples-covid-19-and-the-amazon","status":"publish","type":"noticia","link":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/noticias\/webinar-indigenous-peoples-covid-19-and-the-amazon\/","title":"Webinar: indigenous peoples, Covid-19 and the Amazon","content":"<div class=\"tts_content_wrapper_1\" ><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Webinar organized this Wednesday, July 15, by Conectas with the support of the organization <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coalici\u00f3n Regional por la Transparencia y la Participaci\u00f3n<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> discussed the situation facing Brazilian indigenous populations in the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participating in the event were\u00a0<\/span><b>Luiz Eloy Terena<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0of the Ipegue indigenous village in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, who is a lawyer for APIB (Association of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil), holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the National Museum of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and is a post-doctoral candidate at the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00c9cole des Hautes \u00c9tudes en Sciences Sociales<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in France; <\/span><b>Juliana de Paula Batista<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a lawyer for the NGO <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instituto Socioambiental<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who holds a masters in Citizenship, Democracy and Human Rights from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC); and\u00a0<\/span><b>Daniel Sarmento,\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a full professor of constitutional law at the Rio de Janeiro State University and a former federal prosecutor.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The discussion was moderated by\u00a0<\/span><b>Julia Neiva<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, coordinator of the Development and Socioenvironmental Rights program at Conectas. She holds a masters and is a human rights fellow from the Columbia Law School and is a doctoral candidate in human rights at the University of S\u00e3o Paulo Law
