{"id":19390,"date":"2019-12-06T16:26:10","date_gmt":"2019-12-06T16:26:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/?post_type=noticia&#038;p=19390"},"modified":"2021-04-05T13:12:45","modified_gmt":"2021-04-05T13:12:45","slug":"organization-request-support-from-un-after-serious-rights-violations-in-iran","status":"publish","type":"noticia","link":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/noticias\/organization-request-support-from-un-after-serious-rights-violations-in-iran\/","title":"Organization request support from UN after serious rights violations in Iran","content":"<div class=\"tts_content_wrapper_1\" ><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Monday, December 9, Conectas and another thirty civil society organizations submitted a letter alerting United Nations Member States to the serious rights violations in Iran and requested their support for a resolution on human rights in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The resolution, adopted by the UN General Assembly\u2019s Third Committee, calls on the Iranian authorities to release anyone detained for exercising their rights, including people arrested for taking part in peaceful protest. It also asks the country to launch an accountability process in response to all cases of human rights violations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since November 15, the Iranian government has used lethal force to crush protests and, according to reports from Amnesty International, at least 7,000 people have been arrested and 208 killed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The demonstrations erupted spontaneously and focused on the economy, unemployment and corruption.
