{"id":19260,"date":"2019-12-04T00:17:18","date_gmt":"2019-12-04T00:17:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/?post_type=noticia&#038;p=19260"},"modified":"2019-12-06T17:08:34","modified_gmt":"2019-12-06T17:08:34","slug":"margarida-genevois-wins-bar-associations-human-rights-award","status":"publish","type":"noticia","link":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/noticias\/margarida-genevois-wins-bar-associations-human-rights-award\/","title":"Margarida Genevois wins Bar Association\u2019s Human Rights Award","content":"<div class=\"tts_content_wrapper_1\" ><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At 96 years of age, the member of the Board of Trustees of Conectas, Margarida Genevois, was honored with the Franz de Castro Holzwarth award on November 27 by the S\u00e3o Paulo chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Run by the Brazilian Bar Association\u2019s Human Rights Committee, the award was created to recognize the efforts of public figures who work for the fulfillment of human rights in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Genevois graduated in Social Sciences from the S\u00e3o Paulo School of Sociology and Politics and she has served as president of the Justice and Peace Commission of the Archdiocese of S\u00e3o Paulo, as a member of the Human Rights Commission of the University of S\u00e3o Paulo (USP) and as a member of the National Council on Women\u2019s Rights, and she was one of the founders of the Brazil Human Rights Fund.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She also founded and chaired the Brazilian Network for Education in Human Rights and was one of the founders of the Teot\u00f4nio Vilela Human Rights Commission. In 2008, she received the title of \u201cS\u00e3o Paulo Citizen\u201d for the representativeness of her work in human rights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAfter so many years, and democratic governments that supported the National Human Rights Plans and the Right to Truth and to Memory, we are living, aghast, in cruel times of the glorification of violence and the drastic reduction of fundamental rights, particularly for those who are already extremely vulnerable.
