On Wednesday 30 October, in a discussion session, researchers, activists and religious leaders will discuss the role that religions play in the human rights agenda. This open event is free of charge and will start at 6.30pm at the <\/span>Instituto Federal De Bras\u00edlia<\/span><\/i> (Quadra 610 M\u00f3dulos D, E, F, G \u2013 Asa Norte, Bras\u00edlia \u2013 DF, 70830-450).<\/span><\/p>\n

Issues such as the political influence of the evangelical caucus, religious and gender dogmatism and the freedom of religion and belief systems as a right, are some of the key points of the debate. The event marks the launch of the\u00a0<\/span>29th edition of the Sur Magazine<\/span><\/a>, bringing broad reflection on this theme in articles, interviews, profiles and artwork.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The following people have confirmed their participation: Humberto Santana, a doctoral student at Unicamp (State University of Campinas) and a researcher in the area of the Anthropology of Religions; Silvia Souza, lawyer and advocacy adviser at Conectas and a post-graduate student in Human Rights, Diversity and Violence at UFABC (Federal University of the ABC);\u00a0Romi M\u00e1rcia Bencke, Lutheran pastor and secretary general at CONIC (The National Board of the Christian Churches of Brazil) and Hasti Khoshnammanesh,\u00a0an Irania<\/span>n national, of the Bah\u00e1\u2019\u00ed faith and a teacher at the <\/span>Escola das Na\u00e7\u00f5es<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

About Sur<\/b><\/p>\n

Sur \u2013 International Human Rights Magazine is published by Conectas. It seeks to influence the global human rights agenda, producing, promoting and publishing innovative research and ideas, principally in the Global South, on the practice of human rights.<\/span><\/p>\n

The publication is edited in Portuguese, English and Spanish with free online access to a public of over 20,000 people, in more than 100 countries. A hard copy edition is also distributed to principal libraries, universities, international organisations and cultural centres around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

Edition 29, entitled \u201cRace and Human Rights\u201d has 13 written articles by 29 authors from 13 countries, with two interviews and also profiles of five religious leaders from different belief systems.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The project\u00a0\u201cH\u00edbridos \u2013 Esp\u00edritos do Brasil\u201d is one of the new contents offered in the magazine. The authors are two French artists and researchers and this project aims to provide the viewer with an immersion into different Brazilian rituals through the images and songs that characterise each of them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
