Next Thursday, 26 September at a round table discussion, researchers, activists and religious leaders will discuss the role that religions play in the human rights agenda. This open event is free of charge and will start at 7pm at the Centro Cultural Casa 1 (R. Adoniran Barbosa, 151 \u2013 Bela Vista, S\u00e3o Paulo). The focus of the centre is to foster the arts and culture of the LGBT+ community as well as providing support.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Issues such as the political influence of the evangelical caucus, religious and gender dogmatism, freedom of religion and belief systems as a right, are some of the key points of debate. The event marks the launch of the <\/span>29th edition of the Sur Magazine<\/b><\/a>,\u00a0<\/b>bringing broad reflection on this theme in articles, interviews, profiles and artistic pieces of work.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The following people have confirmed their participation: Alexya Salvador, pastor at ICM (Igreja da Comunidade Metropolitana) and LGBT+ activist; Humberto Santana, doctoral student at Unicamp (Universidade Estadual de Campinas) and researcher in the area of Religious Anthropology; Silvia Souza, lawyer and advocacy consultant at Conectas and postgraduate student in Human Rights, Diversity and Violence at UFABC (Universidade Federal do ABC); Isabela Kalil, Doctor in Social Anthropology, Law student and researcher on the international forum\u00a0<\/span>Sexuality Policy Watch<\/span><\/i>\u00a0on Gender and Politics in Latin America; Sheila Tanaka, consultant on the programme of Christian Aid in Brazil, holds a Masters degree in Latin American Studies at the University of Berlin and Ana Carolina Evangelista, researcher at ISER (Instituto de Estudos da Religi\u00e3o), holds a Masters degree in International Relations at PUC-SP (Pontif\u00edcia Universidade Cat\u00f3lica de S\u00e3o Paulo) and in Public Administration at FGV-SP (Get\u00falio Vargas Foundation in S\u00e3o Paulo).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Content from this edition of Sur will be presented during the event, including the exhibition of artistic pieces of work from the Franco-Brazilian project \u201cH\u00edbridos \u2013 Os Esp\u00edritos do Brasil\u201d (Hybrids \u2013 The Spirit of Brazil) and the video \u201cRito de Pass\u00e1\u201d (Opening the Pathways) the title track from MC Tha\u2019s new album.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

About Sur<\/b><\/p>\n

Sur \u2013 International Human Rights Magazine is published by Conectas. It seeks to influence the global human rights agenda, producing, promoting and publishing innovative research and ideas, principally in the Global South, on the practice of human rights.<\/span><\/p>\n

The publication is edited in Portuguese, English and Spanish with free online access to a public of over 20,000 people, in more than 100 countries. A hard copy edition is also distributed to the principal libraries, universities, international organisations and cultural centres around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

Edition 29, entitled \u201cRace and Human Rights\u201d has 13 written articles by 29 authors from 13 countries, with two interviews and also profiles of five religious leaders from different belief systems.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The project\u00a0\u201cH\u00edbridos \u2013 Esp\u00edritos do Brasil\u201d is one of the new contents offered in the magazine. The authors are two French artists and researchers and this project aims to provide the viewer with an immersion into different Brazilian rituals through the images and songs that characterise each of them.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
