The event took place in the Folha de S\u00e3o Paulo auditorium in the city of S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/p>\n<p>During the seminar, academics, judges and representatives from civil society discussed subjects like, the role of the judiciary as guardian of the Constitution, counterpoints between austerity measures, the international human rights system and the Citizens\u2019 Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Among those invited to attend was the Sao Paulo Court of Justice Judge Kenarik Boujikian, Economist at the Get\u00falio Vargas Foundation, Samuel Pessoa and the Executive Director of the Vladimir Herzog Institute, Rog\u00e9rio Sotilli.<\/p>\n<p>The Political Scientist and USP Professor, Rog\u00e9rio Arantes, the USP Law Professor, Conrado Mendes and the S\u00e3o Paulo Court of Justice Judge, Kenarik Boujikian were on the panel on \u201cThe role of the Judiciary as Guardian of the Constitution\u201d. During the debate, Professor Rog\u00e9rio Arantes said the current situation in Brazil is \u2018gloomy\u2019. He appeared to be pessimistic about the future of the legal system. \u201cWhat I see ahead is a process of the deinstitutionalisation of democracy.\u201d He said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To see the full debate.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fconectas%2Fvideos%2F996445767230614%2F&amp;show_text=0&amp;width=560\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Conectas Executive Director, Juana Kweitel, the OXFAM Campaign Coordinator, Rafael Georges and the Get\u00falio Vargas Foundation Economist, Samuel Pessoa were on the panel on \u201cAusterity Measures versus the Citizens\u2019 Constitution\u201d.\u00a0In her analysis of the austerity measures recently introduced in Brazil, Juana Kweitel reflected on Constitutional Amendment 95, that has hit the country\u2019s underprivileged classes: \u201cA tool is needed to guarantee the necessary adjustments to ensure access to basic services such as health and education.\u201d She said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To see the full debate.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fconectas%2Fvideos%2F485282265311966%2F&amp;show_text=0&amp;width=560\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Political Scientist, Glenda Mezarobba, Lawyer, Alberto Toron and Executive Director of the Vladimir Herzog Institute, Rog\u00e9rio Sotilli participated in the panel on \u201cThe Federal Constitution and the International Human Rights System\u201d. The lawyer, Alberto Toron drew attention to the need to control institutional violence in order to defend human rights. \u201cWhen the police do whatever they want and behave as though \u2018anything
