On Thursday 11 October, the Organising Committee of the Vladimir Herzog Journalism Prize for Amnesty and Human Rights<\/strong>\u00a0will meet in a public session to select the winning articles for the 40th edition. As in previous years, judging will take place at the Sao Paulo Municipal Chambers. The list of finalists<\/a><\/u>\u00a0was published on Monday 1 October.<\/p>\n

The session will start at 10am, in the Tiradentes Hall<\/a><\/u>\u00a0(8th<\/sup> floor), with live internet transmission.<\/p>\n

In this edition, 607 works were submitted and accepted for the scrutiny of the jury, in the categories arts, photography, audio, video, text and multi-media.<\/p>\n

Traditionally, judging is split into two phases: firstly, the selection process, which 33 jury members participated in this year, representing almost all the states in the country; the second phase is the award, made up of leaders from the thirteen institutions that administer the prize, who evaluate the work of the finalists and select the winners and those to receive honourable mentions.<\/p>\n

The award ceremony will be on Thursday 25 October at 8.00pm, in Tucarena, in Sao Paulo. There will be a discussion session beforehand with the award winning journalists, to exchange experiences regarding planning and writing the winning articles.<\/p>\n

The 40th Vladimir Herzog Journalism Award for Amnesty and Human Rights<\/strong>\u00a0is held and organised by the following institutions: FENAJ (National Federation of Journalists; Union of Professional Journalists of the State of S\u00e3o Paulo; Justice and Peace Commission of the Archdiocese of S\u00e3o Paulo; ABRAJI (Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism; UNIC Rio (United Nations Information Centre in Brazil; ECA\/USP (School of Communication and Art at the University of S\u00e3o Paulo); Intercom (Brazilian Association of Interdisciplinary Studies on Communication); Federal Council of the Brazilian Bar Association; S\u00e3o Paulo Chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association; Periferia em Movimento collective; S\u00e3o Paulo State Police Ombudsman\u2019s Office and the Vladimir Herzog Institute.<\/p>\n
