{"id":14490,"date":"2018-10-09T16:36:35","date_gmt":"2018-10-09T16:36:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/?post_type=noticia&#038;p=14490"},"modified":"2021-04-06T13:02:49","modified_gmt":"2021-04-06T13:02:49","slug":"seminar-to-discuss-the-rights-of-venezuelans-and-humanitarian-reception-in-latin-america","status":"publish","type":"noticia","link":"https:\/\/conectas.org\/en\/noticias\/seminar-to-discuss-the-rights-of-venezuelans-and-humanitarian-reception-in-latin-america\/","title":"Seminar to discuss the rights of venezuelans and humanitarian reception in Latin America","content":"<div class=\"tts_content_wrapper_1\" ><p>Ombudsman\u2019s Office representatives from eight countries (Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina, Peru and Mexico) and international and national civil society organisations will be participating on 23 and 24 October in S\u00e3o Paulo, in the Ibero-American Seminar\u00a0<strong>\u201cThe Protection of the Rights of Venezuelans \u2013 For a Humanitarian Reception in Latin America\u201d<\/strong>. The event is free and open to the general public.<\/p>\n<p>This meeting will provide a regional vision regarding the migration rights of the Venezuelan population and the inclusion of these people in the countries where they are being received. It will seek to identify the principal challenges to the reception, shelter and integration of migrants in new countries. In addition, it aims to pinpoint solutions to meet the needs of the growing contingent of Venezuelans with a view to relieving pressure on local communities and services in the states with the highest reception rates.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Registration<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Those interested in participating in discussions should register by 12 o\u2019clock on 15 October, via the tab\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"Registration%20and%20Results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Registration and Results<\/a>\u201d on the site \u00a0<u><a href=\"https:\/\/escola.mpu.mp.br\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/escola.mpu.mp.br<\/a><\/u>. 170 places are being made available to the general public. Selection will be by electronic draw. Members and civil servants at the Public Prosecution, the judiciary and the Public Prosecutor\u2019s office, members of refugee and migrant committees, reception committees, working groups on employability, managers and teams at shelters, civil servants, representatives of civil society organisations working in this area, students and journalists can apply for registration.<\/p>\n<p>The Brazilian School of Public Prosecution will <strong>not<\/strong> cover the cost of accommodation, food, transport from the airport or flights for those registered as members of the general public. 85% attendance is a pre-requisite to receive the certificate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Programme<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The event will open on 23 October at 8.30 and will be attended by the Prosecutor General of the Republic, Raquel Elias Ferreira Dodge; Federal Attorney for the Rights of the Citizen, Deborah Duprat; Attorney General for Labour, Ronaldo Fleury; Chief Executive at ESMPU (The Brazilian School of Public Prosecution), Jo\u00e3o Akira Omoto; representatives from: the Ibero-American Federation of Ombudsmen; the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR); the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights; the Public Defender\u2019s Office and Conectas Human Rights.<\/p>\n<p>Over the two days of activities there will be five round tables on the following subjects: \u201cMigratory Norms and Policies, Legalisation, Application for Refugee Status, Migratory Control\u201d; \u201cHumanitarian Attention, Emergency Humanitarian Services. Attention to the Migrant Population, reception, shelter and psychosocial attention\u201d; \u201cSpecial protection for priority attention groups. Attention and access to rights for women, children, the elderly, the disabled, indigenous people and the LGBTI community\u201d; \u201cThe role of the media in combatting xenophobia. Journalism, human rights, migration and refugees\u201d and \u201cHumanitarian reception in Latin America. Opportunities and challenges. Strategies in progress\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In the afternoon, on 24 October there will be a further round of debates focusing on the Brazilian situation, in particular the city of S\u00e3o Paulo. These debates will cover subjects such as the recent migrant flow and response at the local and national level. There will also be a presentation on the Institutionalisation of Municipal Policy on the Immigrant Population (PMPI) in S\u00e3o Paulo, the principal challenges and positive experiences in local policy for the immigrant and refugee population.\u00a0<u><a href=\"https:\/\/escola.mpu.mp.br\/selecao\/exibirAnexo\/idAnexo\/16150\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Check out the full programme<\/a><\/u>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Organisation\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 The Ibero-American Seminar follows on from the \u201cMeeting of Ombudsmen\u201d, that took place in Ecuador on 17 and 18 September this year. It is being held by the ESMPU, The Federal Attorney for the Rights of the Citizen (PFDC), The Iberoamerican Federation of Ombudsman (FIO) and the Regional Project for the Strengthening of Members of the Iberoamerican Federation of Ombudsman of the German Cooperation Agency (PROFIO\/GIZ), in partnership with the network for the training of those involved in reception, integration and interiorisation of refugees and migrants in Brazil (For further information on this project\u00a0<u><a href=\"http:\/\/escola.mpu.mp.br\/h\/rede\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener
