Viewing racism as structural means understanding that the functioning of Brazilian society is based on the historical segregation of black people from the political and economic corridors of power.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is why Conectas has made a commitment to combat racism by considering the centrality of the issue in many of the human rights challenges facing Brazil. We are aware of how racism manifests itself in a cross-cutting way in all our program initiatives.<\/span><\/p>\n

Conectas works towards the formulation of public policies that promote racial equality, that consider the specific needs of black Brazilians and that combat discrimination.<\/span><\/p>\n

With regard to historical reparations, we defend affirmative action policies to guarantee access by black people to technical and higher education and to public sector employment.<\/span><\/p>\n

We support black movements and organizations in the formulation of national and international political advocacy strategies, as well as in strategic litigation, to promote change and greater equity.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>
