Liberdade Provisória e Atuação da Defensoria Pública do Estado de São Paulo

This report presents the results of research carried out by Conectas in the framework of the project “Strengthening mechanisms for access to justice for prisoners, especially in the State of São Paulo”. The research sought to know the implementation of the guidelines agreed in the state conferences of the Public Defender’s Office. For this, the guideline was to “request the granting of liberty in all cases of pre-trial detention, regardless of the analysis of probability of deferral,” which allowed the quantitative study of criminal cases to observe compliance with this orientation by the defenders the public.
