The exhibition “Visceral Reality”, organized by the Criminal Justice Network, of which Conectas is part, will be held from April 6-10 at the Conjunto Nacional commercial center in São Paulo.
Part of the campaign “Mass incarceration is not justice”, the exhibition aims to raise awareness about the situation in the Brazilian prison system, with the use of virtual reality technology.
According to the Criminal Justice Network, the experience is intended to open people’s eyes and make them question the overcrowding of the system — Brazil currently has more than 600,000 prisoners and just 371,000 prison places — and the policy of mass incarceration, which primarily affects black youth from poor neighborhoods.
The exhibition is open to the public and is free of charge.
The Criminal Justice Network is formed by eight non-governmental organizations that are working to make the criminal justice system fairer and more respectful of fundamental rights and guarantees.
