Universities simulate Brazil’s review in the UN; see photos of the activities
In preparation for the third cycle of Brazil’s Universal Periodic Review in the UN, Conectas on March 5 staged at its offices in São Paulo a specific training course for university students from 19 different Brazilian states. Back at their universities, they shared their new knowledge with professors and colleagues and together they organized UPR simulations on the topics and challenges of the hearing, which took place on May 5 in the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland. The training course was attended by students of universities from 19 Brazilian states: State University of Southeast Bahia (UESB), State University of Bahia (UNEB), Catholic University of Brasília (UCB), University of Brasília (UNB), Law School of Vitória (FDV), Catholic University of Minas Gerais (PUC-MG), Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU), Federal University of Grande Dourados (UFGD), University Center of the State of Pará (CESUPA), Federal University of Pará (UFPA), Catholic University of Paraná (PUC-PR) – Londrina and Maringá campuses, Rio de Janeiro Federal Fluminense University (UFF), University Center of Rio Grande do Norte (UNI-RN), Federal University of Pelotas (UFPEL), University of Vale do Itajaí (UNIVALI), Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Federal University of Sergipe (UFS), University of São Paulo (USP), University of Rio Branco (FIRB), Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV), Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation (FAAP), Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP), Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), University of Ribeirão Preto (UNAERP) and Federal University of the ABC Region (UFABC).
The UPR is the main international mechanism for reviewing the human rights situation in UN Member States and it takes place every four and a half years.
