Thirty-nine civil society organizations released an open letter asking the Chamber of Deputies to be careful when choosing who will chair the Commission on Human Rights, Minorities and Racial Equality. The document points out that the next parliamentarian to assume the presidency of the Commission needs to commit to the “ideas of equality, freedom as well as social justice.”

“In the current scenario, we cannot allow the Commission on Human Rights, Minorities and Racial Equality […] to be captured by the extreme right and become a stage for the spread of lies or hate speech that attack and delegitimize the struggles and achievements of the Brazilian people´s right”, the organizations, including Conectas, warn in the letter.
