Organisations call for prompt reception of venezuelans in Colombia

In a letter to the Colombian President Iván Duque, NGOs call for swift decisions concerning applications for refugee status and integration efforts, together with regional governments and civil society.

Latin American organisations working in the area of migration and human rights are asking the Colombian Government for special attention in receiving Venezuelan refugees. Among the demands expressed in the joint letter are: prompt decisions regarding applications for refugee status; improved communication work with civil society and granting permission for permanent visas for refugees, including a way of obtaining residency and citizenship.

The organisations also ask Iván Duque to encourage a joint response, along with regional governments, in order to work on several fronts, such as humanitarian action, the implementation of public policy and diplomacy. Conectas signed the letter along with another 24 civil society organisations.
