NGOs call for governing bodies to sign the “Escazú Agreement” for immediate ratification

Organisations want Presidents to sign the Agreement at the next UN General Assembly, on the 27th.

In an open letter civil society organisations call for heads of state in Latin American countries and the Caribbean to sign the “Escazú Agreement” on 27/06, at the UN General Assembly, in New York.

According to the organisations, the Agreement is a fundamental tool that will allow for a more participative approach in decision-making and the elaboration of policies and projects related to the environment as well as reducing and mitigating conflict. The NGOs believe that signing the “Escazú Agreement” is the first step needed towards including rights to access on environmental issues, on government agendas.
