National Pact for Life reinforces demands for Covid-19 prevention

More than 100 civil society organizations release a manifesto in support of the initiative of the National Council of State Health Departments

More than a hundred civil society organizations and social movements from across the country have released a manifesto in support of the National Pact for Life, an initiative of the National Council of State Health Departments for prevention measures against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Among other demands, the Pact calls for more stringent measures to restrict non-essential activities, legal recognition of the health emergency, the provision of extraordinary funds for the public health system and the approval of a National Economic Recovery Plan that includes the immediate resumption of emergency income support.

“All the data indicate that we are currently experiencing the worst moment of the pandemic caused by Covid-19 since the beginning of last year. Hospitals across the country are full, there are not enough ICU beds to cope with new patients and the health systems of many cities are on the verge of collapse,” warn the organizations in the manifesto.
